Ruapehu Volcano

By Bethany Green

Mt Ruapehu is a large volcano located in New Zealand, Australia
Recently some government ministers have been sent up to monitor
it's volcanic activity. They say that if the crater lake continues to fill
at its present rate a lahar(mudflow) could come by 2005. Cons. Min. has approved
an alarm that would warn people of the lahar. The last time Ruapehu erupted was in
1995-1996. Right now Ruapehu is at alert level 1. In 1998 there was ashfall from Ruapehu.
