Colorado has 3 areas - Plateau, Rockies, High Plains - VIEW
The Colorado Plateau is centered at the "4 Corners" area
with little folding or faulting over the past 600 million yrs.
This high, thick crustal block has remained stable thru the
upthrust of the Rocky Mtns & the Basin & Range stretching.
Before that this 'province' was on a continental margin.
The sedimentary rock would have been injected later
with igneous rock giving us today's marbled features.
The Laramide Orogeny (a major mountain-building process)
raised up the plateau.
The Plateau includes Grand Canyon NP (AZ) as well as
Zion NP & Bryce Canyon NP (UT) and Mesa Verde NP (CO).
National Monuments include: Canyons of the Ancients,
Aztec Ruins, Hovenweep and Natural Bridges
