4. Palmdale to Lone Pine

a. Take the 14 northeast through Lancaster & Rosamond to Mojave.

b. Take a right (north) at the end of Mojave (not yet Hwy 395 yet!).

c. Continue north through Red Rock Canyon.

d. Continue past Olancha and through Cartago (former port town!).

e. As you get to Lone Pine turn right toward Death Valley to the Visitors Center.

f. It closes at 5PM. Find out if the roads are open to…

g. Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest and/or Whitney Portal

1. Whitney Portal Road to the Alabama Hills (north side).

2. 126 S. Main St (Chamber of Commerce) courtyard – Movie Room

3. 1872 Lone Pine Earthquake Cemetery – just NW of Lone Pine (Hwy 395)

4. Manzanar Visitors Center (nice short film & auto tour) Hours 9-5:30.

5. Mt Whitney Fish Hatchery (a few miles north of Independence)

6. Right turn out of Big Pine to Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest.

7. Sierra Overlook & Schulman Grove Visitors Center.

8. Out of Bishop Hwy 6 to Laws Railroad Museum.

9. Between Bishop & Laws – 5 Bridges Road & fishing area.
