Leaving San Luis Obispo County
We left Thursday morning getting breakfast at Whispering Meadows on Hwy 41.
It's a good breakfast, but if there are more than 3 parked cars and you're in a hurry...
We got a sandwich at Lynn's Deli on Broadway in King City to eat later.
Just before Soledad, exit Arroyo Seco Road west. (Don't turn off at Arroyo Seco.)
Soledad Mission is a nice stop. Drive along the west hills on River Road to Chualar.
Right on Chualar River Road take you east thru Chualar (Payson St) to Chualar Rd east...
Take Old Stage Road north (watch for a right turn) all the way to Herbert Road (straight)
Take San Juan Grade Road thru the hills to San Juan Bautista!

Around San Benito & Santa Clara Counties
Checked in at Posada de San Juan (right in the downtown area).
Made the drive up to Fremont Peak.
We recommend the Windmill Market for their deli sandwiches.
Sally even found a quilting store, Heavenly Quilting
Had a Basque dinner and Flamenco show (Manolo Vargas & wife) at Matxain Etxea
Friday, we headed north past Gilroy and west on Watsonville Road.
30 minutes at the Chitactac Adams Heritage County Park (Ohlone Indians)
Found Uvas Canyon Park (Croy Road) and took the Waterfall Loop Hike.
Returned on G25 to Hollister and took the Calaveras Fault walking tour.
Ate at a very nice German restaurant in San Juan Bautista.

Los Banos, Merced County
Took Hwy 156 to Hwy 152 and Casa de Fruta
Los Banos Wildlife Preserve was open for hunting season!
San Luis National Wildlife Refuge was our next stop.
Tule Elk Auto Tour - Tule Elk, Red-tailed Hawk, Coyote
Waterfowl Auto Tour - Blue Herons, Great Egrets, ducks, hawks, white-tailed kites?
Ryan's Restaurant (just west of the Shell station) was a very nice family restaurant.
If you ever need breakfast try Eddie's Famous Cafe east of Ryan's.
