APOLLO 100

An English studio group, Apollo 100 was assembled by arranger Tom Parker (b. Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England) and consisted of musicians Clem Cattini (b. 28 August 1939, London, England), formerly of the Tornados, Vic Flick, Z. Jenkins, Jim Lawless and Brian Odgers, who were accompanied by an orchestra. Parker, a multi-instrumentalist, had built a career as a session musician when he decided to form Apollo 100 in 1972. The group's first single”Joy”, was an adaptation, arranged by Parker, of J.S. Bach's ‘Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring’. Issued on the Mega label, it became a Top 10 record in the USA. An attempt to capitalize on the same theme, “Mendelssohn's 4th (2nd Movement) only managed to reach number 94 in the US singles chart. The album, Joy, charted a month after the hit single, but the group split soon afterwards and Parker and Cattini returned to session work.
