Vicki Sue RobinsonVICKI SUE ROBINSON

In 1976, a girl from Philadelphia called Vicki Sue Robinson had her smash hit "Turn the beat around"( years later re-recorded by Gloria Estefan) on the top of the charts. This song stands infor all the inspired one-shots that lit up dance floors and radios.

Perhaps that's the greatest song ABOUT disco as a way of life."TTBA combines a catchy minor-key chord sequence(most exceptional disco songs, like most outstanding folk ballads, are in minor keys.... the significanceof this phenomenon eludes me), searing rock-style guitar, and quasi-Patti Smith scatting,to fashion an unforgettable whole.

Here in Brazil, that was the only hit of the 70's from Vicki. She would be back in charts here in the 80's, around 1982 and 1983 with the song "To sir with love".

Vicki participated in 1993 in "The 70's celebration". There she sang her big hit, and then, sang together with Gloria Gaynor and Thelma Houston the great "I will survive"

In April 28th 2000, after a long fight against cancer, Vicki Sue Robinson, 46 years old, passed away. We all miss you, Vicki!
