Bird Sightings for
September 30,2001
   
Audubon Overlook - Baywood Park
At the end of 3rd St, take the dirt road right to park.
Coastal Access Steps are good too.

Bird List 1:30PM 9-30-01
Green-winged Teal (look for the unreal green in the wing!)
Western and Least Sandpipers (small 'Peeps' flitting by)
Forester's Tern (hovering then diving into the water)
Marbled Godwit (Big,cinamon color,long upturned bill colored orange to black)
Long-billed Dowitcher (5 inches shorter,'sewing machine' bill action)
White Pelicans in the distance. Brown Pelicans skimming the water!
Snowy Egret moves by stirring up the mud.
Avocets get the orange color later during mating season. (side-to-side bill action)
Northern Pintail with the white in the chest and up their necks.
Red-winged blackbirds were noisy. White-crowned Sparrow in the bush.
We saw two active, screeching Red-shouldered Hawks(white bands in the tail)
Killdeer sounds funny and has broad black chest bands.
A few Willets flew by with their striking black and white wing markings.
Returning we saw three Black-crowned Night Herons and a Great Blue Heron.
The Black Brant geese will fly from Alaska in 36 straight hours later in the year.
