Driving Directions
El Chorro Park is on Hwy 1 opposite Cuesta College between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay.
Turn right on the park road and take Dairy Creek Road to the locked gate.
There is a day use fee and the park closes at dusk.
Eagle Rock & Oak Woodlands Hike
Hike up the road past the gate for .1 miles.
Take a right at the signed nature trail.
Pass the Chumash Indian mortar bowls.
Go toward Eagle Rock taking the right fork past a wooden gate.
Go up the fenceline for a shortcut. We came down that way.
Go thru the barbed-wire fence and take the dirt road.
Return down on the Oak Woodlands Trail.
Connect back to Dairy Creek Road, going left to return.
El Chorro Loop Hike
Hike past the gate about .8 miles along Dairy Creek Road
Upon reaching a paved road, take the bridge over Dairy Creek.
Sally spotted a buck near a eucalyptus grove.
Climb over the vehicle gate and continue upward.
Take the first left and walk ruts.
Over a rise you'll see the forked path to the overlook.
Take the left fork to the 664 ft hilltop.
Sit on the rock and return down toward the water tower.
Both hikes in less than 3 hours
Sally and I did both.
Just turn right on Dairy Creek Road coming out of the Oak Woodland.
Eagle Rock was great. El Chorro Loop wasn't so great.
It was fun to spot a group of 6 deer moving thru the fields.
Try El Chorro in the spring when everything is greeen.
