April 8, 1999

Dear Members and Friends,

After 2 years of very dedicated work, The Terminal Islanders has approached the phase, wherein, we must initiate and enter into the donation program of our momentous project.

Signed by Governor Pete Wilson in September, 1998, Assembly Bill No. 898 recognized the Terminal Island Japanese-American Fishing Village Commemoration. AB No. 898 became complete in January of 1999, when the sum of $148,000 was sent to the Port of Los Angeles.

Abiding with the state legislative procedure, the Terminal Islanders, as a private sector, fulfilled its obligation by sending $2,000 to the controller’s office of the Port of Los Angeles. The total sum of $150,000 is now the property of the Terminal Islanders.

With the dynamic support of the members, friends and various organizations, our Terminal Islanders Memorial, for sure, will be spectacular and culturally stimulating. Many of our Isseis, first generation, have left us, but there are still some who bless us with their presence. The Isseis hoped that we, the progeny, would become good citizens and make them proud. Our endeavor now depends upon the amount of support we will receive for our campaign.

Our goal is to raise the sum of $250,000 in addition to the state’s contribution of $148,000.

• Donations are now being accepted.

• Acceptance of pledges will extend to the end of March, 2000.

• “In Memory Of_” and honorarium donations are encouraged.

• Donor plaques will hold the names of pledged members.

We have now received our non-profit status from the state Franchise Tax Board, which officially makes the Terminal Islanders a non-profit organization. With the Terminal Islanders being a non-profit organization, much of your donation will become tax deductible. Those who have already donated will be receiving an Information Card regarding the deduction of your gift.

As is true of any endeavor, our ultimate success will depend upon the amount of support we receive for our campaign. The opportunity to provide future generations with this legacy is now in our hands.

Please do not hesitate to contact any of the committee members for clarification of any subject matter. Also, any positive suggestions will be entertained by the committee. However, do not wait too long.

Thank you. And as ever, stay healthy.

Sincerely,

Yukio Tatsumi

President, Terminal Islanders
