Lunada Bay & Long Point

From the viewpoint over Bluff Cove, drive south along Vista Del Mar enjoying the beautiful homes and ocean views. Using Palos Verdes Drive West when necessary continue to Lunada Bay and Long Point.

Palos Verdes HS where I got to teach for over 20 years. Movies often filmed along this coastline. Lethal Weapon used the 2817 Via Segovia home across from Resort Point. I'm pretty sure they even used one of our high school yearbooks in the film. At Long Point (old Marineland) Lethal Weapon 2 used Terranea Cove Beach as the film site for Martin Rigg's trailer. Notice the matching rocks in the background of both photos. Wait... you haven't seen the movie?

Patsy Kensit?
Mel Gibson?

The photo here shows a fault zone at the top right of this seacave. The Altamira shale which makes up the rock here is 10 to 17 million years old. When angular rock is broken, it is called breccia. When fault rock is ground up by tremendous frictional forces, it is called fault gouge. A thin ribbon might still be visible in the fault line of this seacave. Along the beach some cobbles are blue and green from the metamorphic rock, Catalina schist which is over 100 million years old.
