CAROL DOUGLAS
b. 7 April 1948, Brooklyn, New York, USA. Douglas was a member of US vocal group the Chantels in the early 70s before going solo. Her debut
single, released in November 1974, was a cover of “Doctor's Orders” - a
previous UK Top 10 hit for female UK pop vocalist Sunny -
which peaked just outside the US Top 10. After the
minor hit “A Hurricane Is Coming Tonite”, further US chart success proved
elusive for Douglas. Her recordings included a version of Abba's “Dancing Queen” and a mid-tempo
disco remake of the Bee Gees' “Night Fever”. The latter, arranged and conducted
by Michael Zager, reached the lower reaches of the
Top 75 in the UK in mid-1978.
