b. Morris Albert Kaisermann,
1951, Brazil. Although Albert was born in Brazil, most listeners to
his one and only hit assumed that he was French. The musically gifted Morris
wrote “Feelings”, a slow ballad in the romantic style of Sacha
Distel and Julio Iglesias
that became a major worldwide hit in 1975, reaching number 4 in the UK charts. The song was
later used as the theme music to an Italian tragi-romantic
film. The subsequent album found similar success, but afterwards his career
faded into anonymity. A decade after the song was first released, Albert found
himself losing a case of plagiarism. It was established that the now notorious
"Feelings"
was taken from “Pour Toi”, by French composer Louis Gaste. Not only did Morris lose the case, but he parted
with ú250,000 as a settlement. He is still
actively performing in Brazil, but is reluctant to
release new songs.
