We only have a short time in Ketchikan.
We dock at 2PM and return to ship at 7:30PM.
We chose the "Best of Ketchikan" shore excursion.
It's Canada Day!

Thursday - July 1st
In the morning we cruise the misty coastline.
You get some nice views of the town as the cruises in and docks.
Our "coach" takes us through the downtown shopping area.
WWII Tatsuda gave his store to his neighbor. Keys and profits were returned.
We make a short stop at the Saxman Indian Village.
Nathaniel Jackson is making his totem pole while we visit.
We visit the totem poles and hear their stories.

Salmon fishing not gold is the story of Ketchikan.
We tour an old cannery which early on used a largely Chinese labor force.
In the old warehouse machines like the "ironchink" were on display.
Ketchikan video history of salmon fishing including purseiner boats.
It starts to rain. Ketchikan gets 4 times as much rain as Seattle, Washington.

Our float plane picks us up at the cannery dock.
Behm 'Canal' circles the east of the island and we pass New Eddystone Rock.
Besides fjords, we see glacier-scoured mountains, lakes and streams.
We even splash down in Walker Cove! Did I mention single prop?
It was even fun just flying into Ketchikan's harbor and taxing up to the dock.
