Mosquito Creek Lodge

Minto Resorts

Braeburn Lodge

With talks and video presentations (on and off the bus)...
we've learned a lot about gold mining and the rush to Dawson.
We're sort of doing the gold story in reverse,
beginning in Fairbanks and ending in Skagway.

Saturday - June 26th
8AM We've got a long haul ahead - 8 hours
1st stop - Moose Creek Lodge but watch out for the mosquitoes!
We might have seen one or two moose?
Did you know that most of the trash cans have a raven on them?
2nd stop - Minto Resorts for lunch and a Nanaimo Bar! (recipe).
Peaceful and by the river. No mosquitoes.
3rd stop - One hour from Whitehorse but we stop at the Braeburn Lodge?
Huge and delicious cinnamon roll. (Ours was bigger than the one pictured!)
We roll into Whitehorse past a DC-3 wind tee (weather vane).
:( Another room with a fan! and the hall is an oven!
We switch to hanging wet towels over our heads at night!
Good News: The Frantic Follies are just great that evening.

Sunday - June 27th
Our one chance to see Kluane National Park
It's a 2 hour drive through to Haines Junction and the Visitors Center.
We're always passing crossings and bridges.
In the southern part of the park, we hiked the Rock Glacier.
It was difficult to see the Dezadeash Lake below or the mountains above!
At Kathleen Lake we even got to see a loon diving for fish.
The mosquitoes were bad but Jim had his 31% and 100% Deet repellent!
After dinner we walked down to the Yukon and riverfront area.

Monday - June 28th
We have some time in the morning to visit the Yukon Wildlife Preserve
It was a good chance to see more big animals like the muskox and stone sheep
10AM And we still have time to visit Folknits
As we leave the Whitehorse area we note that the float trip down Miles Canyon
would have been a good replacement for the Yukon River cruise we missed.

Fire Smoke
kept the heat bearable
but would prevent mountain views
even in Whitehorse.

Sally's Flowers
